Kyle Welcher

Professional Angler

From a professional poker player to now a professional angler, Kyle Welcher has been able to leverage his strategic thinking and love of competition to master both sports. Kyle began fishing at a very young age with his brother and father on the lakes of Alabama, where he became hooked on the sport. He then went on to fish competitively at the University of Alabama. After college, and in only his third season on the Bassmaster Elite Series, Kyle earned the coveted Angler of the Year title by twenty four points versus his closest competitor. Kyle recently made the switch to RELiON lithium batteries so that he could stay out on the water for longer periods of time - all while maintaining the same level of power throughout each day.

Kyle’s power system includes:

Kyle’s Ikon lx 20 2024 boat is powered by two 12V RB100-HP cranking and house batteries and three RB36V40 trolling batteries. His energy system powers his trolling motor, and three Humminbird Apex 13 Garmin Livescopes.

Why Kyle switched to lithium:

“It’s very frustrating to run out of power throughout the day and that was continually the case when I was using lead-acid batteries. Lithium batteries are incomparable to lead-acid batteries when it comes to the performance benefits for my onboard electronics and my trolling motor.”

Why Kyle chose RELiON:

“I had spoken with many other pro anglers who had nothing but positive things to say about RELiON batteries. This gave me the confidence to invest in RELiON, a decision I did not take lightly given the significant impact batteries can have on my performance. I was also impressed with how easy these batteries were to install - having three terminals on the cranking battery was very convenient.”

How Kyle’s lithium system helped him challenge his limits:

“I can stay out on the water longer thanks to my new battery system. I feel more prepared on tournament days after having longer practice sessions. These batteries also do not experience a loss in power during the day, which enables me to focus purely on competing rather than worrying about my equipment holding me back.”

Kyle’s advice for people considering switching to lithium batteries:

“If you want to spend more time fishing and less time working on your equipment, switching to lithium is the clear choice. You won’t regret it.”

What advice do you have for up and coming anglers?

“You can learn something from anyone, so treat everything like a learning experience. These experiences will accumulate over time. When you have the passion and drive to succeed, you’ll also be surprised with how much you can learn in a short amount of time.”
