Recommended Battery Chargers For RELiON Lithium Batteries

Posted June 11, 2021

So, you’re interested in purchasing a RELiON lithium battery and may be curious about which charger to use for your specific application. While almost any charger should work, there are a few that we see most frequently among different applications.

Before we mention the chargers we see most often, there are a few things you need to confirm when selecting a charger for your setup. First, you should verify that the charge profile you are using, or the one that is on your charger, is appropriate for lithium batteries by checking the voltage setpoints. You can look at the voltage set points located in the charging instructions document on our website. For example, for our 12-volt Legacy products, these voltage setpoints would be between 14 and 14.6 for bulk and absorption and between 13.3 and 13.8 for float. For most RVs and large boats, your charger will be able to have a custom charge profile set. Note that if you are upgrading from lead-acid to lithium, an AGM charger should work fine and that multi-bank chargers are recommended for series systems.

Now, let’s dive into the chargers we see most often for each application. For bass boat marine applications, we most often see the Noco, Dual Pro and Minnkota chargers being used. For RV applications and marine applications such as Catamarans or larger boats,we typically find people use the Victron, Xantrex and Magnum chargers. For solar applications, we recommend just about anything for the charge controller so long as it is MPPT. It is important to mention that for our InSight Series™ batteries,we have an approved list of chargers such as Lester Summit Series 2, Delta-Q IC Series, Delta-Q Quiq Series, and more that are programmed to our algorithm. Keep in mind that there are many other chargers that could work for your application or that you may prefer, these listed are simply the chargers RELiON works with most frequently with customers.

We hope this helps answer your charger compatibility questions! If you are still unsure of which charger would be most suitable for your application, please contact us at relionbattery.com and one of our Technical Experts will be happy to help!
